Act like a lady, think like a #GirlBoss
I believe that success comes from not only hard work, dedication and persistence, but also the belief that you can accomplish it in the first place. Sometimes having a girl boss mentality is hard. It means being strong in tough situations when all you want to do is lay down and cry. It means accepting yourself when people are yelling out your flaws. It means standing tall when your heart is being broken into a million pieces. It means growing from these situations and making the choice every single day to be better than the day before.
It is hard being a girl boss. But it is also worth it.
“Nothing worth having comes easy.”
Be fearless in the pursuit of your dreams
Fear sucks. Fear is inevitable. Fear is something you have to face.
The fearless aren’t necessarily people who have no fears, they are people who face their fears instead of letting them prevent them from action. One of my biggest fears was putting myself out there, vulernabilities and all. It is still hard everyday because it can be scary. It is terrifying to put yourself out there for everyone to judge but the risk is worth the reward.
Just Do It.
The most important thing about pursuing your dreams is starting.
Just do it, dont think about it too much. You will get in your own head, but if you make the decision to pursue something you have to just do it. Every day you have to make that decision that no matter the mood you are in you are going to work on your dream. No matter the conflict in your heart, you are going to work on your dream. No matter the elements against you, you are going to work on your dream.
You have to keep on pushing because persistence, dedication and hard work will always pay off. Don’t let the fear of failing prevent you from doing what you always dreamed of doing. You will only fail if you do not keep trying.
Own your Flaws
People Will Always Judge You
There is little room to waiver in self doubt although as human nature we will.
At some point you have to be confident enough to realize that you are comfortable enough with yourself that what others think of you really shouldn’t matter much anyways. If you know who you are, why does it matter what they think? If they make misjudgments, thats on them, they don’t know any better because they don’t know you. So shame on them. But you just keep doin you boo boo.
Surround yourself with good, motivating people who believe in you
This makes all the difference to have people who want to help you grow. Those who believe in you, motivate you and push you, these are the genuine people, the people who care and want to see you do well. People rub off on one another, the energy is contagious whether it is good or bad, so make sure it is good.
Life is what you make it
The places you go, the people you meet and your everyday activities are what you make of them. Moving to Denton taught me this. I was afraid I was going to be living in a little town with no imagination and stuck all over again but I wasn’t. I ventured out and found fun little places that have become my favorites. I have met amazing people on campus and have made a home in the process. Life is nothing like the movies- your life doesn’t have to be perfect in order to be happy. (It’s not like anyones Instagram feed either)
Being different isn’t a bad thing
It’s actually pretty freakin awesome.
Do you know how many times I have been told that I am weird? I have officially accepted it, because its a good thing to be a little weird, a little different. That is what sets us apart and makes us stand out in an oversaturated market regardless of the business you are in.
I have been through so many life events that I feel have forced me to grow up a little faster than I had planned. But honestly, even when I was little I was somewhat different than the rest. I spent my free time going to parties with my parents and when I went to summer camp, my best friend was the counselor. I didn’t have many friends my age but it was always because I felt misunderstood and like I just didn’t quite fit in. I was afraid to put myself out there and be deemed weird as I had many times before. Come to find out, it wasn’t really such a bad thing.
Sacrifices are inevitable
When you think of all the most successful people in the world, how do you think they got there? By partying every weekend and sleeping in every morning? Probably not. Hard work is inevitable and so are sacrifices. There has to be a focus and with this focus comes sacrifices. What are you willing to give up in order to make something amazing? Are you willing to give up your free time watching netflix? Going out partying? Going to bed early and waking up late?
Focus is everything
Take an example from the Rock, when he works out and begins to get distracted he screams at himself, “FOCUS!” This is because we must FOCUS! Focus all of your efforts and energy on what you are trying to create. Don’t get distracted because nothing good comes from half-assing it. You have to give it your all if you want it to be everything you planned it to be. You have to show people what you are capable of.
Growth is your BFFL
Embrace change and realize the power in knowledge.
Always be open to change, to growth and to learning new things. We have to continue evolving to keep up with the fast pace world around us.
Always be true to yourself and be authentic with your audience. People can tell when there is a front being put up. This is something I have had to work on. I never really put up a front to hide who I was rather than put up a front to make sure everyone liked me. People pleasing was engraved in my brain at a young age but sometimes you lose yourself in trying to make everyone else happy. Be real, be you and everything else will be awesome.
